About Us

In the late 1960’s our  first homebred Miniature Schnauzer with the  “Attaway” kennel name was registered with the American Kennel Club.

I started working with Miniature Schnauzers as a young teenager (14 years old) at Blythewood Miniature Schnauzer Kennel, owned by Joan Huber and Dr. Robert Huber, DVM.  Blythewood was one of the top early Miniature Schnauzer kennels in the United States.

I took a break from the dog shows while moving about with my husband and young children — New York, Texas, Maryland, Germany — but once back from Europe and settled in El Paso, Texas, the kids were older, so breeding and showing the dogs was once again doable. In El Paso, I was fortunate to meet and travel to western dog shows with Carol Baumgartner (Chindee) and Marianne Stephens (Marki) and to breed to some of their lovely dogs (along with a few Blythewood girls and boys :).

We finally settled on five wooded acres in the beautiful state of Virginia. Carol Patterson (Latshaw) was a wonderful friend and breeder of Miniature Schnauzers in Washington DC. We traveled to dog shows up and down the east coast. I was fortunate enough to meet Manuel Itriago (Manit) at dog shows in Atlanta, Georgia.  We have bred many wonderful dogs together.

There have been many other wonderful breeders we have worked with thru the years — Carol Beagle (Blackwitch), Myra Snyder (Bojangles), Terrie Houck (Destineez), Shawne Imler (Ernhart), Sandy Wagner (Jo-Mi),  Paula Steele (Postscript), Kurt Garmaker (Repitition), Gail Wilford (Scandals), Gale Schnetzer (Wards Creek), and I am sure I have left out others.  Thank you.

For me there is no other dog that compares to the love, devotion, and intelligence of the Miniature Schnauzer.  Ch. Blythewood Magic Moments was my first Miniature Schnauzer.  She was a wonderful little girl with loads of personality, a wonderful mother, and produced beautiful healthy puppies.

Because of the help of many talented mentors and a lot of hands on experience, my daughter Angie and I continue to raise the best little companions possible.

I may not be in the show ring as I was when younger, but Angie and I enjoy raising these wonderful little dogs.
